The ticket sales for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro was launched in the country by sports travel agency Fanatic Sports who was roped in by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the job.

The agency also got the backing of International Olympic Committee (IOC) which has appointed it as the official Indian Authorised Ticket Reseller (ATR) for the Games. As the exclusive ATR for Rio Olympics all Indians travelling to Brazil would have to purchase the tickets from Fanatic Sports.

The IOA president N Ramachandran said they were looking to provide “total  package” for the spectators but found themselves not geared up for it. “We already have a lot on our plate. So we put up the tender on our website, there was bidding, there was a tender committee. We went for Fanatic Sports. Now the request for tickets will be forwarded to Fanatic Sport," he said.

India’s double Olympic medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar, who was also present on the occasion, requested the fans to buy tickets to support the athletes in Rio.

Sushil also said he was not under any pressure from fellow grappler Narsingh Yadav, who won an Olympic quota for India at the World Championships in the men’s freestyle 74 kg.  The 32-year-old appreciated the effort of Yadav and said only the best would represent India at Rio Games.

“Narsingh has done an amazing job for the country. The federation will hold a trial to select the best wrestler. I am fit and ready for it. Whosoever represents India should do well for the country," said Sushil.
