City cops arrest 10, crack 15 theft, burglary cases

Valuables worth Rs 26.90 lakh recovered from them

In a major crackdown, the City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested 10 burglars and thieves, wanted in 15 separate cases and recovered valuables totalling to Rs 26.90 lakh from them.

Addressing the media here on Saturday, Police Commissioner B Dayananda gave the names of the arrested persons as: Syed Wasim, 28; Fayaz, 32; Mohammed Rafi, 30 and Mashad Ahmed, 24, all from Galipura in Chamarajanagar district; Syed Halim, 24 Azeez Sait Nagar; Mohammed Manna, 28, and Ummar, 23, Ghousianagar; Ravi, 22 and Kiran Kumar, 20, from BMSri Nagar; and Syed Irfan, 29, KT Street - all from Mysuru.

Explaining their modus operandi, the commissioner said, Wasim was a professional and had continued with his activities after being released on bail from jail in 2014.

Along with his accomplices, Wasim had taken to burglary with the intention of leading a lavish life. The ill-gotten wealth was spent on bikes. Following their arrests, one each case registered at Metagalli and Chamarajanagar town have been solved. Valuables worth Rs 7.90 lakh, including gold and Rs two lakh in cash have been recovered.

Halim, the prime accused in the second case in the order (mentioned above) was wanted in chain-snatching among other cases. He was planning a burglary, when the police foiled the bid.

Following the arrest, Rs 15 lakh worth valuables have been recovered from him and cases registered at Udayagiri, Nazarbad, Vidyaranyapuram, Nanjangud and Malavalli in Mandya district police stations have been solved. Ummar, a co-accused in the case, is also involved in a murder, as confessed to by him during interrogation. With their arrest, a total of 532 grams of gold jewels and three kg of silver items worth Rs 15 lakh have been recovered.

Ravi and Kiran were adept at window theft and were making away with valuables during night hours. The duo were doing a recce of the houses during daytime. Two cases reported in NR station have been solved with their arrest. A total of 30 grams of gold valuables and seven cellphones have been recovered.

Irfan is arrested on the charge of vehicle theft and five two-wheelers worth Rs 2.50 lakh have been recovered from him. Following his arrest, cases registered at Kalasipalya, Shivajinagar and Cottonpet police stations in Bengaluru have been solved.
