CBOO meet from today

Corporation Bank Officers’ Organisation (CBOO) will organise its 20th all India conference and general body meeting on January 24 and 25 at T M A Pai Convention Centre in the city.

According to a press release, the inaugural session will be inaugurated by Professor Emeritus Prabhat Patnaik, Jahawarlal Nehru University, Delhi at 10 am on Sunday. Patnaik was part of a four-member high-power task force of the United Nations (UN) to recommend reform measures for global financial system under the chairmanship of Nobel Laureate Dr Joseph Stiglitz.

Y Sudarshan, President of All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), the largest body of supervisory cadre in the world with more than two lakh membership, will address the conference as guest of honour. He is also the general secretary of All India State Bank of India Officers’ Federation.

CBOO Vice President G Raghuraman will preside over the conference. The business session will begin at 2 pm on Sunday and conclude on Monday evening. More than 2,500 delegates from all over India will attend the conference.

The business session, besides electing a new team for the next triennial period 2016-19, will discuss issues affecting banking industry like mounting NPAs, CDR and measures to tackle willful defaulters and steps to be taken to fasten legal process for recovery, efforts to weaken PSBs and privatise them in the name of reforms, ill conceived attempts by the government to impose CMDs and EDs from private sector.

There will also be deliberations on the challenges before the bank and strategies to meet them, the release said.
