Raitha Sangha urges to stop illegal sand mining

President of Raitha Sangha district unit D R Duggappa Gowda has warned that huge protests will be staged if the illegal sand mining carried out on the banks of river Netravathi is not stopped by the administration.

In a press release, he stated that the sand from Hemavathi river banks is being illegally transported under the license procured in Mangaluru-Udupi. The sand is being transported during nights without the permit and no action is being taken.

No proper inspection is conducted in check-posts, he said. Illegal sand mining and transportation is also being carried out in Hanthur, Kanachur, Uggehalli, Chakkudige, Chimmatagere, Hireshinagara and other areas. The directions by the High Court and the Supreme Court are flouted, he said and urged for action against the officials of Mines and Geology department.

The sand is being illegally transported in the name of the beneficiaries of various housing schemes, he said in the press release.
