Two young men returning home from a movie theatre were killed and another was injured when their motorcycle collided head-on with an unidentified four-wheeler near the RMC Yard in northern Bengaluru after Saturday midnight, police said.

Bheemanna Uppar, 20, and Basavaraj Bhajantri, 18, were tossed up in air in the powerful collision between the two vehicles, and bled to death around 12.30 am. Their friend Sahebanna Bhajantri sustained grievous injuries but is said to be stable.

The men, who work as construction labourers, had watched a film at Ullas theatre at Marappanapalya in Mahalakshmi Layout and were retuning to their home in Coolinagar, Nandini Layout. Sahebanna was riding the bike while his relative Basavaraj and their friend Bheemanna were on the pillion. None of them was wearing helmet, according to police.

The motorcycle was in high speed when it took a turn at Aralikatte temple near RMC Yard. Sahebanna failed to notice a vehicle coming from the opposite direction and crashed the motorcycle with it. The driver of the unidentified vehicle just sped off. Local residents rushed the trio to hospital. It is unclear if the men were drunk, police said.

Sahebanna and Basavaraj are from Yadgir district while Bheemanna was from Raichur. They had moved to Bengaluru about a decade ago.

The bodies were handed over to their families after the post-mortem at the MS Ramaiah Hospital. The Yeshwantpur traffic police said they were checking the footage of CCTV cameras installed near the accident spot to trace the vehicle involved in the accident.

The driver, Gangaraj, lost control over the bus as the victim is said to have suddenly appeared on the road and came under the bus. The jurisdictional Ashok Nagar traffic police have detained Gangaraj.
