Remove illegal hoardings by Feb 15 or pay fine
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Thursday set February 15 as the deadline for removal of all illegal advertisement hoardings, flexboards and banners across the City.

Stringent measures, including legal action, will be taken against persons on whose behalf hoardings are displayed illegally.  In a public notice issued on Thursday, BBMP stated that any advertisement published without written permission and payment of licence fee to BBMP will be considered illegal.

This move comes after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a recent review meeting with Palike officials on the thriving illegal hoarding scam in the City. A PIL was also filed in the High Court in this regard.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Mayor B N Manjunatha Reddy Reddy said that fines in the range of Rs 500 to Rs 5,000 would be slapped on the violators. A Palike officer from the west-zone said that many FIRs had been filed against violators in last 15 days. In fact, in the last one year, more than 200 cases have been booked against those defacing the City, under the Karnataka Open Places ( Prevention of Disfigurement) Act 1981, sources said.

According to a report submitted by BBMP Additional Commissioner (Advertisement) K Mathai, the Palike suffered a loss of Rs 2,000 crore due to non-collection of tax and penalty from  hoardings in the last eight years.
