Schoolgirl falls into sump, dies

An 11-year-old girl died here on Friday after she accidentally fell into a water sump at Munnireddy Layout in Hongasandra under Madiwala police limits. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Prakruthi, a fifth standard student at a private school.

She was residing along with her mother Roja, who is employed at a garment factory. The incident occurred on Friday morning when Prak-ruthi was playing in front of her house. She ventured into her neighbour Srinivas Reddy's house while playing and fell into the open sump accidentally. The incident came to light a few of hours later when a family member at Reddy's house, went to close the sump and noticed Prakruthi's body.  They informed her mother and the police, who shifted the body for post-mortem. Reddy told the police that they had kept the sump open to check the water levels.
