The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said it will stop illegal infiltrations in Assam once and for all if voted to power in the upcoming Assembly election.

BJP president Amit Shah who was on a one-day visit to the state on Wednesday and attended back to back rallies at Kokrajhar in lower Assam and Nagaon in central Assam, claimed that the party can stop the menace of infiltration of illegal migrants from Bangladesh which is not only a socio-political issue, but a “security threat” to the nation.

“The BJP is determined not to let the illegals infringe upon the rights of people in Assam and the Bodoland region. Illegal infiltration started in Assam after the Congress resorted to vote bank politics. The Congress safeguarded them.  The infiltrators from Bangladesh have spread across the state.

They have infringed upon the rights of local youths, the local people from tea gardens or Hindi-speaking community or Bodos, everyone is under threat,” Shah said during his speech in Kokrajhar, the headquarters of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

The Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF), which formed a pre-poll alliance with the saffron party had organised a massive celebrations for 13th anniversary of the signing of the Bodoland Accord in 2003 during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee regime.

“The Bodoland accord has been very successful. The BPF is taking the region towards development. The BJP and the BPF alliance is historic for Assam. The BPF had asked the Centre for a Rs 1000 crore  package for BTC region. I can assure you the Centre will give more than that. The idea is to give equal development opportunity for the people of Bodoland and develop the region in the same pace like Gujarat,” Shah added.
