Mass yoga and prayer meet Arogyathon to be held today

Minister Khader says meet in Bengaluru hopes to break Guinness records

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader has said that ‘Arogyathon’, a mass yoga and prayer meet will be held on February 14 at Gayatri Vihar, Palace Ground, in Bengaluru.

“The meet, which will go on from 2 pm to 6 pm, is a precursor to the Global Wellness Meet - 2016. It is being organised by the Karnataka Ayurveda and Unani Practitioners (KAUP) Board in association with Ayush Department – who are hoping to ensure the entry of the meet into the Guinness Book of Records,” said the minister.

Khader told reporters that, at present, the record is the presence of 35,896 persons on the Yoga Day that was held under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “About one lakh people are likely to take part in the mass yoga meet on February 14. Yoga experts Vishwabandu Nagesh, Mansoor, Kalandar Bash, Dany Joe and John Maresh will demonstrate yoga,” he informed.

“The Board and the Ayush Department are also unveiling a statue of Dhanvantari – considered to be the God of Ayurveda – at the venue of the meet. The 124-foot statue is made of fibre. The land for installing the statue permanently, however, will be decided later,” said Khader.

The minister said that the Global Wellness Meet - 2016 is scheduled at the Palace Grounds, Bengaluru, from February 26 to 28 and aims at discussion on integrating Ayurveda and Allopathy. The delegates from SAARC countries and Bali, over 25,000 delegates from Karnataka and other states will attend the meet, he said.

He said that there will be talks on wellness, importance of Ayurveda, Unani and health-related topics by experts. “The meet will also discuss on the role of Ayush doctors in rural areas, Ayurveda food festival and expo on medicinal plants. The Ayur Jyothi Arogya Rathayatre – which has covered 5,000 km across the length and breadth of Karnataka as a part of the golden jubilee celebrations of KAUP Board – will also be at the venue,” he informed.

KAUP Board President Dr Sathyamoorthy Bhat said that a job fair will be held for Ayush doctors on the occasion. About 5,000 jobs will be created on the occasion. The meet will also highlight on health tourism and Indian system of medicine, said the president.

Vacancies to be filledTo a query, the Minister said that the Ayush Department has over 170 vacancies. The approval has been taken from the Finance Department for filling the vacancies. 

The process of filling the vacancies will be taken up shortly, Khader assured.He said that Dakshina Kannada district has nine units of Ayush. One post, related to Ayush, is lying vacant at Wenlock Hospital. There is no shortage of Ayush medicines, he added.
