Jilted lover sets girl on fire

 A 19-year-old girl suffered burns after a man, already married twice, assaulted her and set her on fire for rejecting his marriage proposal, at Janakiram Layout in Ramamurthy Nagar early Tuesday morning.

The police said Arun, 25, an electrician, had decided to marry again. He was in a relationship with Maria, a garment factory employee. They were residing in the same locality. Recently, Arun proposed to Maria. But Maria, who had found out Arun was married twice, declined his offer and started avoiding him.

Around 1.30 am, Arun went to Maria’s house and picked a quarrel with her.
He assaulted her, poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze. Neighbours and family members doused the fire and shifted Maria to a private hospital. According to the doctors treating her, Maria’s condition is stable, said the police.

On being alerted, the police visited the spot and arrested Arun. The jurisdictional Ramamurthy Nagar police said they were investigating whether Arun was staying with his wives and family members.
