JOIN USFamily members of legislators, who had died before December 1978, will now be entitled to pension benefits with the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday passing an amendment bill without any debate.
As per the Karnataka Legislature Salaries, Pensions and Allowances (Second Amendment) Bill 2015, the kin of legislators who had died before December 26, 1978, will be entitled to the pension benefit, which will be operative from February 22, 2014. The government will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 2.56 crore annually from the proposed measure.
The bill piloted by Law Minister T B Jayachandra was tabled in the Legislative Assembly amid din by the Opposition BJP members who were staging a ‘dharna’ demanding a discussion on the controversial Hublot watch of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The bill was passed without any debate.
