The Modi government is all set to hard sell the agrarian reforms at a three-day farmers’ fair at the sprawling Pusa campus here beginning on Saturday.

Over 1 lakh farmers representing every block across the country are expected to attend the Krishi Unnati Mela which would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The pro-farmer and pro-rural accent of the NDA’s third Budget is viewed as a course correction in the priorities of the government, particularly after the BJP’s dismal performance in the Bihar elections.

A view in the government circles was that the Congress’s “suit-boot ki sarkaar” jibe at Modi had stuck too well and done the damage in the crucial elections.

The prime minister is expected to spell out his priorities for the farmers and highlight initiatives such as the new crop insurance scheme that seeks to give maximum benefit to farmers at minimum premium.
