A 30-year-old driver attached to cab aggregator, Uber, was arrested by the Madiwala police in the early hours of Thursday for misbehaving with a woman passenger near HSR Layout, Sector-7, on March 22.

A senior police officer said, “The accused Suresh, a resident of Nandini Layout and a native of Chikkaballapur, was arrested based on a complaint filed by the victim on Wednesday night. The accused was traced through the mobile phone number provided by the complainant. He has been working with Uber for the last one and a half months.”

“Suresh claimed that he did not misbehave with the passenger and that they argued after she declined to pay the service charge. But we are investigating the case and have also asked for the driver’s records from the company,” added the officer.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening when the victim booked a ride in the suspect’s car. She alleged that the driver misbehaved with her. She did not question him as she thought it was not safe. Upon reaching her destination, she took the driver to task. But he refuted the allegation and said that he did not misbehave and sped away.

The complaint was posted on Twitter on the Bengaluru City Police handle, which was later forwarded to the jurisdictional police station.
