MCC to produce bricks from construction debris

Pure drinking water plants, four centres for street vendors in city, brick making unit from construction debris, replacement of existing streetlights with LED lights, construction of two more swimming pools and introduction of pay and park system are some of the highlights of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) budget for 2016-17.

MCC Taxation, Finance and Appeals Standing Committee Chairman S Balu, who tabled the budget, said, “Rs 1.50 crore has been set aside to instal pure drinking water plants in various wards of the city. During the current fiscal, measures have been initiated to instal the plants at 11 wards, utilising the State Finance Commission (SFC) grants of Rs 1.37 crore.”

Taking into cognisance the growing number of roadside vendors, it has been decided to build modernised roadside centres at four locations of the city for the benefit of both vendors and public.
As much as Rs 4 crore has been earmarked for the purpose.

Bricks from debris
To address the menace of dumping of building debris that is coming in the way of maintenance of cleanliness here, measures have been taken to set up bricks manufacturing unit, utilising the debris, under design-build-finance- -operate and transfer (DBFOT) mode. Kesare on the outskirts of the city has been identified for the setting up of a plant.

The existing sodium and metal allayed streetlights will be replaced in phases with LED lights, with the intention of saving power.

Modernised swimming pools will also be built at Kannegowda Stadium, Kuvempunagar and Hebbal in addition to the pools proposed to be built at Ali Park stadium or Thimmaiah Park stadium at Udaygiri, the stadium at Niveditha Nagar under ward 28 and rebuilding of Bhavasar Pool on NS Road in Ward 36.

Pay and park system will be introduced with the MCC expecting a revenue of not less than Rs 1 crore from it.
