Being in the fashion scene since 1995, celebrity designer Rocky Star (Rocky S) has progressed to establish his label that reflects his aesthetic through creative, cool and accessible luxe apparel and accessories.

Someone who is known to change the way fashion in India was seen, Rocky S claims to be the first designer to style Bollywood celebrities. Having styled and designed for over 300 films, his latest undertaking is for Rajnikant and Akshay Kumar in Robot 2.

Commenting on his inclination towards Bollywood, he says, “Considering Bollywood celebrities as fashion icons and dressing them up helps in creating a brand image and keeping your creativity at the upfront.”

In terms of style, he believes in the mantra “not overdoing things and keeping them simple, stylish.”

“Every individual is extraordinary because of their attitude. Style is about being over and above the ordinary which exudes it like never before,” he explains.

According to him, “experimentation is the key to fashion”. While silhouettes range from both glamorous to free flowing, the colour tones around which he generally plays around earthly to dark tones, “which aims to appease the modern and edgy trend.”

His latest collection titled ‘Nomadic Love’ comprises dark colour tones, shimmery blouses and blingy embellishments. The collection that was recently unveiled during London Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2016, brings the “ease and allure of the quintessential bohemian impression”.

“This season we have combined multiple techniques, textures, materials and aesthetics to enhance the boldness residing in women. The collection showcases a tint of royalty. The silhouettes are more flowy and tasselled like the tides and winds, portraying a free bird,” he tells Metrolife.

Not just in India, but the designer has also carved a niche in the international fashion scene. There are some Indian designers whose collections are entirely inspired by the west, but Rocky S believes in keeping intact to his roots.

“Westernisation has made Indian fashion look more contemporary, innovative and appealing. It creates new trends to explore and innovate.

I think that fashion in India has come a long way and people outside India see us more than just traditional embroiderers.”
