CM for development of minority colonies

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said that he has directed the officials to take up the development of colonies where people belonging to minority communities live, under the SC and ST sub-plans.

Speaking after opening the draw of lots for selecting of Haj pilgrims, he said minorities and SCs&STs live together in many places. Though the sub-plans are exclusively meant for providing better amenities at the SC and ST colonies, direction has been issued to the officials to cover minority colonies also, he added.

The government believes in social justice. Minorities have to get the rightful share of resources. They have to brought to the mainstream. The government has the commitment to ensure their safety, he said.

“I have told Qamarul Islam (Minister for Minorities Affairs) and Roshan Baig (Infrastructure Development and Haj) to chalk out schemes and programmes for the welfare of minorities,” Siddaramaiah said.

He assured that his government will soon complete the construction of Haj Bhavan in Bengaluru. The government has set aside Rs 25 crore for the purpose in the 2016-17 State budget.

The Karnataka State Haj Committee selected 2,173 Haj pilgrims of the total 4,477 seats allotted to the State for 2016, through a draw of lots.
The remaining 2,304 seats were reserved for
various categories.
