DMDK-PWF alliance stuck over seat identification

Last Updated 14 April 2016, 18:48 IST

A month after striking poll deal, differences over constituencies seems to prevail in the DMDK-PWF alliance.

The parties had agreed that the DMDK would contest in 104 seats, the MDMK in 29, TMC in 26 and the VCK, CPI and CPI(M) in 25 seats each.

But the seats the parties are interested to contest almost match each other and some of them are said to be stubborn about not relinquishing certain constituencies.  Talks between Vijayakanth, Vaiko and others over seat identification entered the fifth day on Thursday with no agreement in sight.  Though Vijayakanth declared that the issue over constituencies has been concluded, PWF sources said other leaders like Vaiko are “adamant” over giving up seats where his party smells a chance.

"He (Vaiko) is not prepared to give up Virudhunagar constituency to TMC, which wants to contest there", a senior leader in PWF told Deccan Herald.  Similarly, the Thol Thirumavalavan-led VCK wants to contest the dalit-dominated northern belt that clashes with the wish list of the left parties.  Though DMDK announced candidates for Omalur, Pudukottai, Trichy West, Kanniyakumari and Padmanabhapuram after reaching consensus with his alliance partners, the CPI wants to contest in Trichy West, where it has a strong base.

With Vijayakanth already campaigning for the alliance, the DMDK-PWF front is under pressure to release the candidates list in the next two days.
