Used in a variety of dishes such as desserts, tea, coffee and more for flavouring, cardamom is an aromatic masticatory, which is known to enliven one’s spirits. In fact, they also boast of a variety of health benefits.

Cardamom, the queen of spices, consists of protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, rough fibre, acetic acid and formic acid. As an essential oil, it has several therapeutic values and can help in easing quite a few health problems. Here’s looking at some of its health
benefits:

Cardamom helps relieve indigestion, flatulence and heartburn.
Munching on some cardamom seeds is a good remedy for nausea and vomiting.
Eating it daily with a teaspoon of honey strengthens nervous function and improves eyesight.

Gargling a decoction of cardamom relieves throat discomfort as well as toothache and allergic cough.

To cure acidity and hiccoughs, boil a glass of water with one to two cardamoms and a few mint leaves. The drink is sure to bring some relief.

A cup of masala tea with two pinches of cardamom powder is a good drink to have when you are feeling a bit low. It helps deal with feelings of  depression.

Chewing on cardamom seeds helps deal with halitosis (bad breath). This is especially good for heavy smokers.

 Taking one or more cardamoms with a banana at bed time is a good remedy for piles and constipation.

Inhaling the aroma of freshly ground cardamom helps prevent allergic rhinitis and memory loss.

Lactating mothers are advised to take some cardamom as it enhances breast milk production and also makes the infants resistant to diseases.

The best way to consume cardamom regularly is by mixing two or three of them in whole with drinking water.
