Sonia a 'sherni': Scindia

Last Updated 06 May 2016, 20:02 IST

Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday called his party president Sonia Gandhi a “sherni (lioness)” and cautioned ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members against making “false and baseless” accusations against her over AgustaWestland deal.

“You (BJP members) are scared of Sonia Gandhi. You should be because she is a lioness. And you know it very well what response you will get if you chase a lioness. How dare you pointed fingers at her without any evidence,” he said in the Lok Sabha in a fierce response to BJP member Nishikant Dubey’s charge that Gandhi’s name figured in one of court documents in Italy pertaining to AgustaWestland deal.

The Congress leader was speaking on a call attention motion moved by BJP member Anurag Thakur on the AgustWestland chopper deal.

A combative Scindia also countered the Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar’s charge that the erstwhile government of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) did “everything” to ensure that AgustaWestland bags the VVIP chopper deal, contending that it was the government led by Congress which initiated an investigation into the case and black listed the Italian firm for any future deal.

The Congress leader demanded for a Supreme Court monitored probe into the AgustaWestland deal.

ED questions former air chief

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI on Friday continued questioning of suspects and accused in the AgustaWestland case while it contemplated summoning more people, DHNS reports from New Delhi.

Former Air Force chief S P Tyagi faced questioning by ED officials for the second consecutive day for about 10 hours.

In the past two days, sources said, he was asked about his role in the deal and his statement was recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
