State Congress president and Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will decide on reshuffling the Cabinet.

Speaking to reporters at Rani Bahadur auditorium here, the minister said, “The chief minister will discuss the issue with the Congress high command and his ministerial colleagues before the reshuffle.”

Parameshwara said he had no idea whether a new president would be elected for the state Congress unit. He declined to comment about a Dalit chief minister for Karnataka.

Defending the style of functioning of the state government, Parameshwara said it was striving in an effective manner to tackle drought. “Of the 176 taluks, the state government has declared 136 drought-hit. The Centre has released Rs 1,500 crore and the state government has spent nearly Rs 1,000 crore to provide drinking water and other facilities in drought-hit areas. As per the report of the Indian Meteorological Department, the monsoon may be delayed by a week,” he said.
