A girl who has not studied Kannada till ninth standard, has scored 99 marks out of 100 in Kannada in the SSLC examinations.

The rare feat is achieved by Shreya Ganapathy Kamath of Holy Rosary English Medium School. She is the daughter of Santhekatte Ganapathy Kamath and Shubha Kamath.

Kamath studied in six different countries of the world till ninth standard as her father is a deputy director of SAARC. As her father was posted at Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Bhutan, Uganda, Mumbai, Hubballi, and Tumakuru, she could not study Kannada. After she completed her ninth standard, her parents decided to admit her in Kundapura to complete SSLC and she had to choose Kannada as her second language for her studies in 10th standard. Kamath speaks Konkani at home.

She chose Kannada as it is the language of the state where she is studying. With little knowledge of Kannada, she took writing and reading of Kannada as a challenge and strove hard to excel in the language.

School Principal Joyslen and Kannada teacher Prashanth Louis said, “She was grasping whatever was taught for her in the classroom. It was the hard work, perseverance and dedication which helped her.”

She is also good at drawing, swimming, writing poems, skating, dance and singing. She has won several prizes for her extra curricular activities.
She has scored 600 marks in SSLC examinations.
