Parents of RTE students stage protest

Last Updated 23 May 2016, 18:42 IST
Parents of RTE students staged a protest in front of the office of the Block Education Officer, North 1 zone on Monday, after seats allotted to many of them under the RTE quota were cancelled.

Out of the 1.01 lakh candidates who were allotted seats in the first round, only 63,575 have been admitted, according to statistics available with the department of primary education. At least 8,000 applications have been rejected during the physical verification stage as the parents had not complied with the ward criteria.

The Department of Public Instruction has again extended the last date to complete admissions for children who have been allotted RTE quota seats in the first round to May 25. This is the second such extension as there were delays in the admission process.
