They’re catching the attention of Bengalureans. This 3-member band are silently shaping up the music setting of the city. They’ve performed many gigs since their conception. The old school punk band consists of Jardine Marbaniang, the guitarist, Albert Keisham, the bassist and Bunao Konsam, the drummer. Jardine and Albert are students of CMR Law School.

Jardine states, “‘Holy Cow’ can best be described as an old school punk rock band that emerged out of a mutual love for the simple yet fuzzy and heavy guitar riffs, powerful bass-lines and off-beat drumming that emerged during the 70s era of punk. In particular, we love our distortion.”

The band draws inspiration from the early punk rock bands like the ‘Ramones’ and the ‘Dead Boys’ and also from grunge bands like ‘Nirvana’ and ‘Alice in Chains’. He expresses, “Though we primarily play punk rock, we are open to experimentation. Contrary to popular belief, we also have a softer side that can be both seen as well as heard in our acoustic songs which are filled with cheeky lyrics and lots of groove.”

The band does not have a specific approach to song writing and composition as such. They instead take a more relaxed route and let the songs evolve naturally  in the jam room. The members haven’t undergone any professional training. As the band’s singer and guitarist explains, “I just picked up a guitar one day and started singing and playing. From then onward, I started teaching myself.”

The band is an end product of years of best friends jamming in a room together and their love for old school rock ‘n’ roll. ‘Holy Cow’ is the brainchild of Jardine, who had been writing and composing for a few years. The bands songs were originally mean to be a solo project but plans changed upon meeting Albert, a classmate at CMR Law School, who was a budding bassist at the time. And also a big fan of the punk sounds from the 70s and heavy grunge riffs from the 90s, they began jamming together to bands like ‘Greenday’ and ‘Pearl Jam’. Things quickly progressed when their long time friend and drummer Bunao Konsam joined the band.

He then suggested the name ‘Holy Cow’ for the band and a three-legged punk machine was born. Bunao who has been drumming for a few bands over the years has brought in a whole lot of new influences to the band which perfectly suited the band. Music has played an integral role in each of their lives and they plan to continue their tryst with it.They are still working on new songs and look forward to playing more live shows.
