Be it photographs, sculptures or paintings, Art Bengaluru has something to offer for every art-lover. The opening evening of the festival saw the presence of many art-lovers and artists along with socialites, who came in to have a good time. Said Raj Bagaria, one of the organisers of the event, “Bangalore doesn’t have a contemporary art festival like Mumbai and Delhi. Since the City is becoming more and more cosmopolitan, we need to build a concept of a show like this.” He added, “We plan to host it every year with the support of artists and our real focus is fine arts.” Raj further said, “It’s a cohesive art fair that involves buyers and artists.”

Uzma from the UB City, stressed on the importance of encouraging young artists. Her art gallery, Sublime, is also taking part in the festival, “The question that arose during our discussions were — why are exhibitions held only at one gallery? Why not have a mix of galleries?” Pointing to a work by artist Pragya Jain, which consisted of ballerinas amidst various colourful shapes, she said, “This painting is called
Continuous Recital and it’s got continuous metallic patterns.”

While Ruchika, the organiser of the children’s art competition that took place on Sunday said, “It took us two months to organise the entire festival. More than 300 children are taking part in this competition, which is based on the festival of colours — Holi.”The evening also saw the presence of many artists like Yusuf Arakkal, S G Vasudev, Balan Nambiar, Murali Cheeroth, Babu Eshwar Prasad and C F John, who came to officially inaugurate the festival. Shan Re, one of the artists showcasing her series of work titled The Eternal Spring said, “The most important aspect of this festival is that it’s being held at a public space, where anyone can go and see the works.”
Art Bengaluru is being held at The Collection, UB City, till March 4 from 11.30 am to 8.30 pm.
