Executive Engineer of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWS and DB) Mahadevaiah on Tuesday said maintenance of Thumbe vented dam will be handed over to Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) in November.

Participating in a progress review meeting of MCC at the deputy commissioner’s office here, he said, “Except painting and other minor works, all the major works are completed. The painting work will be taken up by mid-October as it is not feasible to take up the work in rainy season.”

Soon after commissioning the dam, it will be handed over to MCC for further maintenance, Mahadevaiah said.

Grants

MCC Deputy Commissioner (Development) N Shivashankar Swamy brought it to the notice of Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim that it has also been proposed to take up works under 13th Finance Commission grants at Thumbe. The works inclue installation of motors and shafts, he added.

Besides, it was also brought to the deputy commissioner’s notice that Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) is insisting on upgrading existing sub-station and installing a separate meter, once the work is completed.
