Coupon system to obtain foodgrains

The Food and Civil Supplies department has decided to introduce coupon system to obtain foodgrains under the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Bengaluru from August 1.

“The plan is to do away with the requirement for 14 documents. Instead, the department is going to ask for the submission of only four documents to issue ration cards,” Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader said.

He was speaking on the sidelines of a meeting held with the city corporators to discuss about the distribution of ration cards and related problems. He advised the corporators to join hands with the department and help detect bogus ration cards.

“A vigilance committee will be set up to solve problems related to ration card distribution. Also, every two months, a meeting between the public, MLAs and department officials will be held,” he said.
