A bright start

The inauguration of the academic programmes 2016-17 of CMR Institute of Technology was held recently. Over 80 university toppers were felicitated on this occasion.

An orientation programme was held to enlighten students and parents about the course structure, examination details and most importantly, their responsibilities. Several academicians and industrialists interacted with students on the current scenario in the industry, challenges and placement opportunities.

Parents and students, who were present, felt happy on learning about their responsibilities and future prospects. The dean, Prof Shankar, highlighted the need to inculcate creativity. “Scientists study the world as it is and engineers create the world as it had never been,” he said. He stressed that students must take up research and elaborated on the research facilities provided in the college.

First-year student Aaditya, who is interested in pursuing higher education, said that “this interaction has given me lot of useful information”.  Asokan S, a parent, whose son has taken up computer science engineering mentioned that his son is excited to see lot of job opportunities in this field. Dylon, a first-year engineering student, said that he has already taken up online courses under the guidance of teachers.

“A policy to manage and design infrastructure is essential to utilise our natural resources efficiently. This enables faster development in all sectors. Rapidly developing India needs a design policy for planning, quality analysis and optimum utilisation of resources,” said Ar Vijay Garg, vice-president, Council of Architecture, New Delhi.

He observed that excellence can be achieved with talent and right attitude. Budding engineers need to inculcate passion for learning, creative thinking and continuously update knowledge. Stressing the need for large scale industry — institution interaction, he encouraged budding engineers to concentrate on soft skills like communication, group coordination, presentations etc.

Pramod Verma, chief architect and technology advisor for Aadhaar who was present on the occasion, stressed that engineers need to develop innovative ideas which will reach the lowest section in the society.

Ability to adapt to any situation, learning to learn are the hallmarks of a successful person, he said. Narrating his challenges he faced as an young entrepreneur, he inspired students to be adventurous.

He mentioned that collaborating with industry in research provides a valuable insight into the subject. This helps students to identify problems and learn to apply the knowledge acquired in the college.

He felicitated academic toppers and innovators who had developed technology in the field of 3D printing, fly-ash based bricks, water conservation and supply, water cleaning etc.

Earlier, Sanjay Chitnis, principal, welcomed the gathering and briefed about the achievements of institution.

K C Ramamurthy, MP and chairman, CMR group of Institutions; Sabitha Ramamurthy, president CMRIT, Dr Anand Joshi, vice- chancellor, CMR University were present on the occasion.
