Reaching an important milestone

The first convocation of PES University was held recently. On the occasion, MBA and MTech degrees were conferred upon 297 students. The ceremony was declared open by Governor Vajubhai Vala.

Dr Balasubramaniam, founder of Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, delivered the convocation address. He advised the graduating students to not be afraid in being innovative while solving problems and consider the combination of passion and compassion as essential to career and life. Digital empowerment, he said, is necessary for success in the real world. He added that due to the enormous amount of data a professional is exposed to, the ability to manage such data and making sense of it is what matters.

M R Doreswamy, chancellor of the university, said the focus areas for the university are quality education, placement record and using flexibility in curriculum to equip the students with vital skills. Alliances with foreign universities, he pointed out, gets students global exposure in higher studies.

The university recently added undergraduate and graduate courses in architecture and design and plans to add courses in medicine, mass communication, commerce, economics and law.

Vajubhai Vala, in his address, advised the students to show courage in tackling the problems faced by society and the nation. He awarded gold medals to rank holders and exceptional achievers.

Prof Jawahar, pro-chancellor, unveiled the scroll of honour and administered the oath to graduating students. They pledged to work for public good, innovate for advancement in their respective fields and be aware of their social responsibility. The campus was abuzz with the enthusiasm of the graduating students.
