Woman claims business partner sought sex as birthday gift

The Bommanahalli police have arrested the managing director of a healthcare firm on the charge of seeking sexual favours from his business partner as his birthday gift. The suspect is identified as John, 50, a resident of BTM Layout. He hails from Uttar Pradesh and had moved to the city a few years ago.

The victim had parted ways with her husband two years ago. She became close to John and the two started their own firm. The victim and John stay at BTM Layout. The complainant alleged that John wanted her to spend a night with him on July 21 which, he said, would be her birthday gift to him.

She claimed that he invited her to Chennai on August 1 to spend some time. He touched her inappropriately in the office. He misbehaved with her frequently and even threatened to strip her in public, she claimed.

During interrogation, John denied the victim’s charges. He told the police that she had withdrawn Rs 4 lakh from his account without his knowledge. She started fighting with him as he objected to her act and demanded that she repay the money. She lodged a false complaint only to tarnish his image, John claimed.

The police said that a financial dispute between John and the victim led to the police complaint. The police said that there was no evidence to establish the victim’s claims.

The police have booked John under IPC Sections 354 A (sexual overtures), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
