The Lokayukta police on Tuesday raided two Commercial Tax and three RTO checkposts in the state.

The police found money unaccounted for, unauthorised private collection agents, tax evasion and other illegal practices during the searches.

Based on several complaints about illegal practices at checkposts, Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi directed the Lokayukta police to conduct searches.

Different police teams raided the Commercial Tax checkposts at Hagari in Ballari and Nangali checkpost at Kolar districts. The police found an excess amount of Rs 1,590 at Hagari checkpost, Rs 5,605 at Nangali, Rs 94,939 at Bagepalli, Rs 22,790 at Hosapete and Rs 11,510 at Hagari checkposts. The police also found that the officials had engaged unauthorised private collection agents at Bagepalli and Hosapete checkposts.

Justice Adi said that a report will be sent to the government against the officials involved in the illegal practices.

“The Lokayukta police have no police station powers. However, as a first step, the officials will be asked to submit the objections and subsequently, a report will be sent to the government as per the provisions of the Lokayukta Act recommending proceedings against the erring officials,” Justice Adi said.
