Students in limbo as counselling dates clash

Last Updated 29 August 2016, 18:58 IST

The counselling for allotment of medical and dental seats has been scheduled on the same day by the Karnataka Religious and Linguistics Minorities Professional Colleges Association and COMEDK, putting students from minority communities in a spot of bother.

COMEDK started the admission process on August 18 and has scheduled the counselling between September 8 and 10. The KRLMPCA has scheduled its counselling on September 9 at Khaja Bande Nawaz Institute of Medical Sciences (KBNIMS), Kalaburagi. The KBNIMS, Al-Ameen Medical College, Vijayapura, and Subbaiah Institute of Medical Sciences, Shivamogga, are the linguistic and religious minority colleges in the state. There are five dental colleges in the linguistic and religious minority category. There are 192 MBBS and 209 BDS seats in these colleges.

While the COMEDK counselling will be held in Bengaluru, the KRLMPCA admission process will be held in Kalaburagi. Students’ presence is mandatory on both the occasions. Parents see a conspiracy in the dates clashing. They say the KRLMPCA is trying to keep some students away, so it can allot seats to the rich.

When contacted, an official in the KRLMPCA in Bengaluru said there was scope for rescheduling the counselling. There is a clash of dates in the second round, too. While the COMEDK counselling will be held between September 20 and 22, the KRLMPCA is holding the same on September 20.
