DVS criticises govt for failing to handle Cauvery crisis appropriately

Former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda has said that the Congress-led state government has utterly failed to handle the Cauvery River water crisis.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, he that there is no sense in urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene. “The case is in the court and the chief ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are adamant. The state government has failed to take the required phase in appealing or discussing water sharing. The formation of a discussion formula is not done and the Court verdict stating that there should not be any problem for drinking water is total injustice to Karnataka. The state government has also failed to encounter the ludicrous demands by Tamil Nadu,” criticised Sadananda Gowda.

Sating that the Cauvery River water issue is sensitive, the former chief minister also criticised the chief minister and the irrigation minister for ‘not responding positively’. “This is a constitutional crisis. The water should not be released until the study by experts at KRS dam is taken up and report is given,” he insisted.

He added the counsel Fali Nariman is a wonderful advocate who takes care of the states’ interest in water distribution.

Responding to another query over the differences between former chief minister Yeddyurappa and the former deputy chief minister Eshwarappa, Sadananda Gowda said, “Everything will be set right following the arrival of BJP’s national organising secretary, who will camp for three days. There are differences between the two leaders, however, the party is a united house and internal differences will not pose any problem. It would be sort out,” he said.
