Urban Ladder to get into physical retail

Last Updated 17 September 2016, 17:27 IST

Urban Ladder, a Bengaluru-based curated online furniture seller, is venturing into physical retail.

“You will see something which is into the physical world from our side very soon. We are opening three consultation centres. These consultation centres are designed very differently,” Ashish Goel, CEO and Co-founder of Urban Ladder told DH.

“The premise of the physical store is that you buy what you see. Here we can’t have everything that you see, that you want to buy, that we want to show you. We also don’t want to have large footprint stores. These three centres will be rolled out by October 15. Out of them, one has already been opened in a model flat of the residential property of Phoenix group,” Goel, went on, adding that the store became operational last Sunday. The store is located in West Bengaluru.

Out of the three centres, two will be in Bengaluru and one in Chennai. “The second centre in Bengaluru will be opened in a week’s time, while the third store will be opened in Chennai by October 15,” Goel added.

On the design styles he added, “One of them has been taken from Malabar coast design styles, another is the plantation furniture from the colonial era. There are three to four more interesting takes like them.”

Goel also said that the company will be launching two product ranges focussing on Indian furniture — ‘India Modern’, in the coming days.

“We have a big launch coming up. We will be launching two product ranges. One by this month-end, another by mid next month. In these ranges, we will be taking traditional Indian motifs, and ways of designing and and manufacturing, and bring them into the context of modern Indian homes,” Goel added.

The company is expecting to turn profitable by the next year, and is targeting an IPO within four years, Goel said. The company has raised $78 millions in funds till date.
