Can't change legal team now, says Jayachandra

Law Minister T B Jayachandra (in pic) on Monday said that as the Supreme Court has listed for October 20 the final hearing of the Cauvery water sharing issue, the state government can’t change its legal team at this juncture.

“Senior counsel Fali S Nariman is an expert and there is no match for his 33 years of experience.

Government will prepare the legal team for protecting the state’s interests,” Jayachandra told reporters here. Interim orders of the Supreme Court not being in favour of the state can’t be the reason for changing the legal team, he added.

On Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal’s suggestion that chief ministers of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra hold a meeting and arrive at a consensus, Jayachandra said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to his Goa counterpart Laxmikant Parsekar a fortnight ago and there has been no response from him.
