The inspector attached to the Byatar- ayanapura police station was transferred as he was found “inefficient and didn’t carry out investigation,” in connection with the recent riots in the city.

A top police source, who preferred anonymity, told DH, “Around 52 cases were registered at Byatarayanapura police station against people involved in arson and riots which took place on September 12. Inspector Hemanth Kumar registered cases but there was no progress in the investigation and no arrests were made.”

“He was under the scanner of the senior police officers as he was not performing his duties. He was asked several times to carry out his duties in the right way but there was no improvement. On Sunday, the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) Om Prakash visited the Byatarayanapura police station. The police chief was upset at the way the investigation was being carried out. He entered in the diary that the inspector was not fit to head the station,” added the source.

A senior police officer mentioned that it is a sensitive issue and needs to be dealt with in a strict manner. “The top brass has decided that it will not allow rioters to go scot free,” he added.
