Proceedings against 11 BBMP health officers quashed

Last Updated 22 September 2016, 21:34 IST

The High Court on Thursday quashed the proceedings against 11 BBMP health officers, saying that Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) does not have the jurisdiction to receive a complaint against them.

Justice Anand Byrareddy quashed the FIR on the ground that BMTF can investigate and receive complaints pertaining to building violations and not with regard to health officers.
Udayshankar, a social activist, had lodged an FIR with the BMTF, complaining that the health officers had claimed allowances from the BBMP for a post-graduation (PG) course in public health in an unrecognised college. The medical officers had submitted that they had taken up the course at Padmashree School of Health.

Following an enquiry into the matter, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) had written a letter to BMTF, noting that the said college and the PG course were not recognised by RGUHS. The FIR was filed against Dr Vedavathi B J, Dr Sujatha S, Dr Devika Rani, Dr G Dhanalakshmi, Dr Komala K R, Dr N Bhagyalakshmi, Dr Nayanatara N Patil, Kalavathi Devi L, Dr Sunitha B and Dr Sandhya Rani.
