Adani UPCL has earmarked Rs 546 crore for CSR works, says Alva

Health cards distributed to 3,822 villagers of Yellur

Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), now under Adani Foundation, on Saturday distributed Adani Aarogya Card, health insurance cover, to the villagers of Yellur near Padubidri in Udupi district.

In his address, Adani-UPCL Executive Director Kishore Alva said that the UPCL has already spent Rs 61 crore towards various development works under corporate social responsibility (CSR) in nearby villages. The amount spent is a part of Rs 8 crore per annum declared to be spent for the next 25 years, thereby earmarking Rs 271 crore in the first phase. During the second phase, Rs 35 crore will be spent in first year, and Rs 8 crore per annum in the following years totalling Rs 275 crore, he added. 

Alva claimed it as a record in the CSR grant, being a role model in the history of CSR activities for the development of the villages. On the Adani Aarogya Card, which will cover 3,822 villagers of Yellur Gram Panchayat with the premium calculated at Rs 30 lakh, Alva said, National Insurance Company has been identified as the agency to provide the service.

Medical treatment
With the card, the villagers can avail free medical treatment worth Rs 50,000 in any of the hospitals. Already, 9,000 villagers have been benefitted and this would be continued for the next 25 years, he added.
 
UPCL has initiated its CSR activities at Yellur village by granting Rs 46 lakh for the drinking water supply scheme. Another grant of Rs 3.75 crore was announced to Yellur Grama Panchayat and already the road concreting works have been taken at the cost of Rs 65 lakh, he added. 

He also told that the safe drinking water plant installed on the premises of the Gram Panchayat is benefitting nearly 2,000 villagers. Dalantri lake of Yellur shall also be developed in the future, he added.

Besides, financial assistance of Rs 3.02 crore has been extended to 302 fishermen families. It is just a beginning, as any request from the fishermen families from Barkur to Mulki shall be given due consideration in the future. Rural sports and folk artistes are other focus areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Zilla Panchayat Member Shilpa G Suvarna who thanked Adani UPCL for giving due importance to the village development programmes, appealed to extend CSR activities to villages coming under Kutyar and Majoor Grama Panchayats. 

Yellur Gram  Panchayat President Vasanti Madhwaraj, Vice President Jayant Kumar, Adani UPCL Assistant General Manager Girish Navada, Manager Ravi Jere, Shubhamangala, Sukesh Suvarna, Dheeraj Devadiga, Anudeep Poojary, Shivaprasad, Vineet Anchan from the foundation were present.
