There are 1,760 motivators and deputy motivators who are involved in the continuing education programme started by the District Saksharata Samiti in February 2003.

However, we have not got the honourarium for 36 months, they alleged. While we are still in distress of not getting our honourarium, the government has sent out a circular saying that the property of the continuing education centres should be handed over to the Gram Panchayat. This move will affect our jobs, said the members expressing their anxiety.

“Even the setting up of the Navasakshakara groups are not going on properly. Those in the villages who are interested in learning are in a fix,” said the agitators. The government circular says that it will provide Rs 25,000 to run the continuing education centres.

The motivators and the deputy motivators who are already involved should be continued so that their future is protected, they urged.

Later, they presented a memorandum to the Zilla Panchayat CEO K R Munegowda. M Gopal, Gopal Reddy, Narayanappa and others were present.
