Notices issued over mosque on drain

The High Court on Friday ordered issuance of notice to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, the Karnataka Slum Development Board and Masjid-o-Madrasa Noor-E-Elahi Trust in a PIL seeking stay on the construction of a mosque on a stormwater drain.

The petitioners, Pushparaj and others, have contended that the mosque trust has been constructing the mosque building on the retaining wall of the drain.

They have contended that in the event of heavy rain, the wall could collapse, affecting the mosque and endangering the devotees’ lives.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice Aravind Kumar ordered notice and adjourned the hearing.
