Shoonya will present Bangalore Little Theatre’s production of  ‘The Prophet and the Poet’ on December 10, 7.30 pm onwards at its premises in Lal Bagh Main Road.

This is an original play based on conversations between Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore over 25 years during the freedom movement.

The dialogue reveals how the two personalities differed significantly in their opinions on the freedom movement. Although their differences widened over the years, they maintained genuine respect for each other throughout their lives.

Adopting a minimalist production design, the play emphasises the dialogue between two great personalities. The play was designed and directed by Vijay Padaki, a life member of ‘Bangalore Little Theatre’ since its inception in 1960.

The script was developed from a manuscript compiled by Shailesh Parekh, based on the comprehensive archival research by Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, former Vice Chancellor of Visva Bharati University. ‘The Prophet and the Poet’ premiered by invitation at Gandhi’s
Sabarmati Ashram and subsequently, this 90-minute production has played 70 times all over India and abroad.
