Bengaluru has always been a city known for experimenting with the latest trends, be it in food, fashion or music. With the dawn of the new year, the culinary enthusiasts here have become even more exciting. They want to experiment with different kinds of food in the kitchen and outside it, travel to different places to taste exotic dishes and even incorporate healthier eating trends in their cooking.

For Harshitha Srinivas, a home baker, the month is an exciting one as she will be travelling to Thailand. She says, “I have travelled a lot in recent times to Europe and I was fascinated to see the Asian cuisine imitated extensively. Therefore, I chose Thailand to find out what the authentic regional cuisine would actually taste like. As a home baker, I’m inclined towards their desserts. We do see their famous roll over ice creams in our city, yet I’m sure it tastes nothing close to the original.

So that’s one thing I want to try out there and the other famous dessert is their ‘Thai sticky rice with sweet mango cubes’, a dessert made of shaved ice, sweet coconut cream and juicy mango cubes. Inside is the sticky rice. As per suggestions from friends, the best is ‘After You’ at the Siam Shopping Center. I am really looking forward to this culinary gala.”

For Aparna George, a baker at ‘belly & Soul’, the year is all about incorporating healthy ingredients in her baking. “People are very particular and conscious about what they eat these days. So I plan to make healthier things for everyone to indulge in. Millets is one of the ingredients that I am looking at incorporating in my list of baking ingredients,” she says.

Aswathi Pillai, another food enthusiast, is looking to start the year with a visit to Mumbai. “I have heard so much about the street food in Mumbai. From the ‘vada pao’ with the amazing ‘chutneys’ to the delicious ‘pav bhaji’ that so many people have raved about, I can’t wait to try the variety of food available there. It’s not like some of it is not available in Bengaluru but I want to actually roam about on the streets and taste the authentic fare in the city itself.” Seems like the year will be a roller coaster ride involving plenty of food and fun for all the foodies in the city.
