<p>P Harishekaran took charge as the 12th IGP (Western range) in Mangaluru on Friday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The range comprises Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru district police units.<br /><br />Speaking to reporters after taking charge, Harishekaran said that he believes in team spirit and will work in coordination of all his officers. <br /><br />“I need a few days to study the demograpy and topography of the range before making any concrete plans to enhance law and order in the region,” he said.<br /><br />While working in the internal security division, he said he has had a vast experience in coastal districts. “The exposure I gained from the region will definitely help to work here.” <br /><br />Harishekaran, a 1996 batch IPS officer, replaces J Arun Chakravarthy, who has been posted as the IGP (Internal Security), Bengaluru. He is a native of Tamil Nadu and started his career as a probationary officer in Vijayapura. Later, he served as SP of Chamarajanagar in charge of Veerappan operation, SP of Raichuru and Tumakuru.<br /> <br />He has worked in different positions and he served as the Additional Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, before coming Mangaluru.<br /> </p>
