A 28-year-old Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) guard committed suicide by shooting himself with his assault rife while on duty at Kempegowda International Airport on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Suresh Gaikwad, a native of Maharashtra and the police suspect he could have taken the extreme step due to personal reasons.
Gaikwad was posted in Bengaluru in 2015. He is a native of Sangli village in Maharashtra. On Monday, Gaikwad was on his morning shift and was guarding the watch tower number seven at the peripheral security layer around the perimeter wall of the airport.
He is said to have shot himself between 9 am and 9.25 am when his body was found by a group of CISF sentries who go patrolling from one tower to the another. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Gaikwad was going through a divorce procedure for the last two months. He was depressed for quite some time.
