Nominations for the first phase of polling for 73 Assembly seats in 15 districts, mainly in the western region, in Uttar Pradesh started on Tuesday.
The last date for filing of nominations is January 24, while the scrutiny of the papers will take place on January 25. The names can be withdrawn by January 27.
Polling will take place on February 11.
The districts going to the polls in the first phase include Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Baghpat, Agra, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Hapur and Meerut.
In the 2012 Assembly polls, the SP and BSP had won 24 seats each, while the BJP had emerged victorious in 10 seats. The Congress and the RLD had bagged five and eight seats, respectively.
