Last Updated 25 January 2017, 20:51 IST

Sensing increased threat perception in the wake of Republic Day, the Centre has deployed National Security Guard (NSG) commandos at all major cities, including Bengaluru.

This is the first time NSG commandos are in the city for security reasons for Republic Day celebrations. They arrived here on Tuesday night and are on standby, a senior police officer said.

“It is a decision from Ministry of Home Affairs to send NSG commandos to all major cities in the wake of Republic Day celebrations,” Malini Krishnamurthy, Additional Commissioner of Police (West), said.

“The city police have made elaborate security arrangements throughout the city, including deployment of Garuda forces at Manekshaw Parade Grounds and KSRP premises behind Bangalore Central Mall. A deputy commissioner of police has been exclusively assigned for security of Metro services on M G Road,” she added.
