MLA H D Revanna has warned of a protest in the Assembly against the district administration if the drinking water problems of the people in the district are not addressed. Revanna told reporters on Monday that authorities have failed to tackle the water problems of farmers in the district. “The crops have been lost. It is not possible to sink borewells. People are facing severe drinking water shortage. A meeting of MLAs and panchayat development officers should have been convened in advance by the DC to sort out the issue. The party will stage a protest in front of the DC’s office after the funeral of soldier Sandeep,” he said.

Referring to the statement of district in-charge Minister A Manju that Rs 1.35 crore has been released to supply drinking water, Revanna challenged that he will resign if the funds have been released. With regard to the crop insurance scheme, Revanna said, 51,612 farmers had paid Rs 3.59 crore premium for crops grown on 46,650 hectares in 2015-16. The crop insurance paid to farmers is Rs 11.67 crore, but in the year 2016-17, only 10,067 farmers have been covered under crop insurance. The administration has failed to create awareness among farmers in this regard and has not issued ‘pahani’. The village accountants are making farmers run from pillar to post for ‘pahani’, he said.

He criticised the deputy commissioner for not visiting soldier Sandeep’s residence even after three days of his death. He demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the family of Sandeep.

Milk procurement price
Revanna said the procurement price of milk has been hiked by Rs 1.50 per litre, which would benefit around 9,000 dairy farmers in the district.
