Govt makes gender-based study

Last Updated 02 February 2017, 19:28 IST
The government is undertaking a review on how women fare in development parameters such as proportion of women police officers and judges, ownership of mobile phones among women and bank loans issued to them for buying vehicles.

The gender-based study has been initiated to measure whether the objectives marked under the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) - 5 are achieved. The SDG - 5 is focussed on ending gender discrimination.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development, the nodal ministry handling issues related to SDG - 5, has written to all the ministries and government departments to provide Action Taken Reports (ATRs) by this week. Official sources said these ATRs would be compiled and submitted to the United Nations.
