Last Updated 06 February 2017, 19:55 IST

The principal bench of the National Green Tribunal will pronounce its final verdict on the Yettinahole drinking water project, coming up in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district, on Tuesday.

Taking note of the Karnataka government's appeal that the project was being implemented for providing drinking water in parched areas, the bench, headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar, said the final verdict will be delivered on Tuesday.

The bench, which is hearing the petitions on the project, also questioned the petitioners K N Somashekar and Kishor Kumar why they brought the matter pertaining to drinking water to the principal bench. However, the petitioners’ advocates Hrathvik Datta and Prince Isaac said the petitioners were not against the project. They said that the project was coming up in an ecologically sensitive area and hence it can’t be permitted as per law. Naveen Nath and Ashok Devaraj, advocates representing Karnataka, submitted that as per the revised proposal of the project, water would be lifted from Yettinahole to fill the lakes in parched districts of Kolar and Chikkaballapur.
