Whipping up happiness

My perfect weekend
Last Updated 09 February 2017, 19:01 IST

I have always looked foward to weekends, especially Sundays, because that’s when I get to do the things that I wouldn’t otherwise get time for. But my profession is such that I sometimes end up working on weekends as well.

I always reserve the weekend to do things that destress me. These could be anything from cooking to yoga to exercise. I try and do something active because I have a lot of energy to burn.

I enjoy spending my weekends at home and that’s also when I get down to baking. I make sure that I add a lot of healthy ingredients into my creations, which range from  chocolate chip cookies to dark chocolate cake. I love cookies but I find those available in the market to be very fattening. That’s why I started making cookies that are gluten-free because then I can eat a few extra ones without feeling guilty.

As far as my cooking goes, I love making a combination of sauteed chicken with vegetables and brown rice. A lot of people may find salads very boring but I play around with the salad dressing and vegetables to add variety and make it  more interesting. And I also like salads because they are easy to make. My favourite salad dressing includes olive oil with a dash of salt and pepper. This is simple, quick and delicious.

I get to spend some quality time with my friends and family on weekends. I have a few close friends from college and a few from the industry as well. Our outings are never complete without shopping, movie and dinner. Since all of us are health conscious, we go to some place that serves  healthy meals. But we also have our cheat days.

I am very close to my mother but my work schedule is such that I travel for the better part of the year. So, whenever I am at home, I make it a point to spend time with my mother. Another person who demands time from me is my nine-year-old nephew Ishaan. He and I make it a point to go for breakfast every Sunday morning.

My brother Amit and I are only three years apart. We’ve grown up together and have a lot of common friends.

We regularly hangout together with a bunch of our friends. Bowling and PlayStation takes up a lot of our time. PlayStation is very addictive and I’ve lost count of the number of games that I’ve played. Fifa being my favourite.

Few people know that I also read. I don’t stick to a particular genre and love reading all kinds of books. This sharpens my thinking and also deepens my thought process. I can relax with a book at just about any time of the day or night.

Since I don’t get enough time to go shopping, I spend a lot of time shopping online. Another one of my favourite pastimes is dancing. I’ve been dancing or learning some form of dance all my life. While contemporary dance is my forte, I’ve also dabbled in a bit of jazz and ballet.
