The former Miss Sri Lanka, was not only one of the two Sri Lankan women to represent her country in the Miss Universe but also worked as a columnist and a business reporter, before entering movies. She talks about media, acting and her new movie.

Jacqueline says films were something that was on her mind for quite some time before she finally bagged her first leading role. “I came to India through a modelling contract in 2007, which is when Aladin happened,” she says. The actor, who is quite comfortable with Spanish, French and Arabic already, had to learn Hindi for the role. “It took some time for me but I have a Hindi teacher who helps me and now I am quite comfortable with it,” she says.

So does she plan on putting her other language skills to use too? “I would love to do a foreign language movie. The great thing about this medium is that you can try out many new things,” she says enthusiastically.

Having been part of the media before, how does feel being in movies? “I have enjoyed my stint in different types of media but what I love about films is that you have chance to be creative,” she says. About her interest in writing, she says, “I do keep a journal but don’t see myself writing a script.

That needs a specific kind of talent.” In her new movie Jaane Kahan se Aayi Hai, directed by Milap Zaveri, Jacqueline plays Tara, an alien from Venus who lands on Earth in search of true love. “What I really like about the script is its sweet, honest love story. And I have a comic role in it,” she says.

So did she have to spruce up her comic talents for this role. “Yes, I had to work on my diction, expressions and with people around me. A lot of homework goes into a role,” she adds.

And this being her second outing with co-star Ritesh Deshmukh, how was it working with him again? “It was great working with him and we had lot of fun on the sets,” she says.
So how long does she see herself acting in the Hindi film industry?

“That is not entirely upto me. I am being spontaneous right now. My perception of things and the environment may change later, so I don’t know how long I will be here,” she adds.

Though there are no more movies in the pipeline, she would be soon be seen in Sajid Khan’s Housefull. “Yes, I have a special appearance in Housefull and am also doing a commercial with Ranbir,” Jacqueline says.
